through warm temperatures

through warm temperatures affirms castor oil's legacy as a natural remedy, an elixir and a historic source that transcends boundaries. This performance takes you on a journey of reconnection with nature and the body. Weaving vocals and dance, the work shifts from meditative gestures to unfiltered expression building towards self-acceptance. Mele Broomes' choreography and vocals, with Simone Seales' live cello and electronic soundscapes, merge as performers shift between solos, duos and collective movement. Moving towards a place of warmth. Inviting release. MadeInScotlandShowcase.com

Originally commissioned by Edinburgh Art Festival for their 20th Anniversary opening event (August 2024). A lighter version (3 performers in development) presented at ActOral Festival (Marseille France, October 2024).

Following a new development phase and rehearsals, through warm temperatures will be presented as part of Dance International Glasgow at Platform (May 2025) before coming to Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2025 as part of Made in Scotland showcase. Supported by Creative Scotland and Tramway.

“Mele Broomes opened Edinburgh Art Festival with a mesmerising performance, working with collaborators including cellist Simone Seales. Thought-provoking and intimate, we wanted to recognise the work and its position within the Edinburgh Art Festival, as an opening event commissioned to set the stage for a rejuvenated programme of radical work.” The Skinny

The work explores connection and harmony with local environment. The themes of the work explore decolonial feminist perspectives on the African and Caribbean diasporic experience. A production which centres Black and People of Colour experiences.  This work speaks to what care is - for communities and for ourselves. How we find and reclaim our voice. What ancestral wisdom we inherit, and what we share and pass on. Healing moments, through release and in celebrating those everyday rituals of care for the body.
